A Day in the Life of the Working Class

The workday started at 7:00, but it was not until 7:22 that Tommy Keough and his rusted-out clunker, with its yellow party plates, noisily pulled onto the site—he simply couldn’t be burdened with the monotony of the morning safety meeting. The men looked at each other and snickered as he took his time pouring himself out of the truck and walking around to the rear passenger door to grab his cooler. When the door opened, an empty Busch Light tall boy rolled out and rattled across the gravel. The crew erupted into laughter as the wind caught it and teased the man, allowing it to settle just long enough for Tommy to make a futile swipe before suddenly blowing it out of his reach again.
