The Last Great Season of America's Pastime

Now, before I get trashed on this, hear me out. At the beginning of the last decade of the 20th century, you could still make a case for baseball as America's most popular sport, even though, throughout the 1970s and 80s, it had lost considerable ground to football. Today, you can make no such case. Baseball is no longer America's pastime, as football occupies that place today, except of course in my heart and the hearts and minds of many old souls throughout this country and beyond.
