In one of many astonishing scenes in Christopher Nolan’s new film, “The Odyssey,” several men sit around a table on a remote island, noisily devouring a meaty stew that a woman has laid before them. They are reaping the benefits, or so it seems, of Zeus’ law, which is rooted in xenia, the ancient Greek concept of hospitality.
