Gatewood comes across hoofprints his tracker says belong to another officer, General James Parker. Parker is on the same mission as Gatewood: to track down and either capture or kill the famed Chiricahua warrior Geronimo. Gatewood is unconvinced. “I tell you it can’t be Parker,” he says, “those aren’t the hoofprints of a horse carrying a fat man.”
