A Boola Boola Revolution

Wee Connecticut, my birthplace and where I lived until my 30s, has not one or two or three but four nicknames. The Land of Steady Habits and the Nutmeg State are quaint and silly, even sarcastic, but the Constitution State has heft. The Fundamental Orders from 1639 is said to be the world’s first written constitution prescribing a structured democratic government and separation of powers. It’s debatable, but I’ll write about it in a couple of weeks. More to the point, Connecticut is the Provisions State. It supplied Patriot soldiers far beyond its numbers vis-à-vis the other twelve rebel colonies and was the Army’s premier supplier of food, weapons, and clothing. Connecticut also supplied Nathan Hale, hanged as a spy and the state’s official hero.
