hen HBO’s Euphoria premiered in 2019, critics were equal parts entranced and horrified. Some praised creator Sam Levinson for his fresh take on the high-school drama genre, including its gritty portrayal of drug addiction; others questioned whether it was really necessary to hire 20-something actresses to play 16-year-olds, then repeatedly show their bare breasts onscreen (not an illegal creative choice, per se, but certainly a questionable one).
