A Stylish All-Women Wrestling League?

It was the first night of Art Basel Miami Beach in 2023 when I found myself beneath the Interstate 95 overpass at Downtown Miami Lot 11 Skatepark. Nearly 2,000 people crammed into the loud, fluorescent-lit cement plot, but instead of orbiting a run-of-the-mill installation, the art world gathered around a wrestling ring. I watched two women in neon latex outfits leap-kick their opponents as the crowd, filled with people escaping the typical art-fair frenzy (including several top-tier gallerists), went wild. This is how I learned about Sukeban, the hyperstylized joshi puroresu (all-women’s wrestling) league wearing outfits by Parisian designer Olympia Le-Tan.
