The Best Appalachian Novels Ever Written

People love to get angry about someone else’s taste, so this week I thought I’d take a crack at throwing a little gunpowder in the campfire with my arbitrary list of the greatest novels written about Appalachia. None of these names are going to be terribly surprising for those who have spent some time reading this very specific subset of (mostly) Southern Literature. But I hope I can call attention to a couple of older books that don’t get the attention today that they merit.
