There’s a particular kind of cognitive and rhetorical failure that tends to occur when accomplished people are asked to distill their life experience into advice. They mistakenly assume that a) they know what worked for them, b) why it worked it for them, if in fact it did work for them, and c) that whatever that is will work for others.
