Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s book Listening to the Law should be read like Hemingway. You must appreciate—not just notice—everything that’s not being said.
To be sure, it is not gossipy. You’ll get zero juicy stories about the justices. It doesn’t posit a spicy new model of jurisprudence. It is faithful to standard, modern originalism. It offers very little by way of personal details. You’ll learn next to nothing about her passions, ambitions, or vices.
