The interview began with an introduction from the writer Jordan Castro, a former subject of mine. Though I wouldn’t say I was a diehard Lin-head, I enjoyed Tao’s nonfiction book, Trip: Psychedelics, Alienation, and Change, and had begun reading his Substack here and there; I liked pieces about Nini, one of his two cats, and took pleasure in admiring the preternatural relationship he has with his animals.
