Intersectionality Cuts Both Ways

Intersectionality is supposed to be the great conceptual sword wielded by society’s weakest to cut through every form of oppression, from racism and sexism to ableism and homophobia. Coined in 1989 by activist and critical race theorist Kimberlé Crenshaw, the term describes how overlapping systems of power disadvantage those at the margins, especially black women who suffer discrimination because of their race and their sex.
