Golf is about to get a little bit harder for everyone who plays it. The fault lies with a surprising demographic: the companies that have made billions of dollars designing products that make golf easier.
It’s a funny sport, golf. Most MLB fans don’t play baseball. Most NFL fans definitely don’t play football. Lots of NBA fans play pickup basketball, and lots of soccer fans play soccer. But those sports don’t require a bunch of equipment. Soccer is the world’s game because people have long played it just about anywhere, using all manner of spherical objects when they lack a proper ball. Golf is a much different deal. Even a passable set of starter clubs costs a few hundred dollars. Keep playing, and that number goes up, up, and up.
