Bob Dylan’s Time in Madison

On the frigid morning of Jan. 20, 1961, John F. Kennedy stood at the east portico of the nation’s Capitol, taking the oath of office as the 35th president of the United States. His address that followed was among the most memorable speeches in American political history, striking a chord across the nation, stirring a profound sense of urgency and issuing a resounding call to action. Though the 1960s were technically underway, Kennedy’s inauguration was, in essence, the unofficial start of the decade, and symbolized the torch being passed to a new generation of Americans.
