Julius Caesar's Last Words

Indeed, as they come about again it is hard to escape the thought that the Ides are never quite fully gone, that we are living in a world predicated upon the death of Caesar and the Augustan settlement. Caesar’s very name, after all, remains a byword for regality,[1]  his death one to furnish seemingly endless materials to playwrights, philosophers, and poets.
