Just as film has its pranksters (think Chaplin and Fellini) and rule-breakers (Godard and Stan Brakhage), it also has its moralists. Carl Theodor Dreyer was among the first, followed by Robert Bresson and Ingmar Bergman in the mid- to late-20th century. More recently, the pulpit has been occupied by the Austrian writer and director Michael Haneke.
