The Dreariness of Book Club Discussions

The bigger problem with power analysis in the context of a book club is that it’s like pulling the pin from a grenade: it destroys the conviviality that is the whole reason for the gathering’s existence. First of all, it makes anyone who liked the book seem like a bad person, because the book is clearly just a tool for supporting preexisting power structures. Secondly, it brings in a lot of implicit political assumptions.
