For the past year, Countere has had the privilege of shadowing some of West Virginia’s most elite ghost hunters, the Spectral Research and Investigation (SRI) team. We hopped around a West Virginia-shaped bingo board of horror movie tropes: a haunted house, a former insane asylum, and a family which claimed demonic possession of their young daughter. We discovered that in West Virginia, a paranormal investigator plays many roles: an amateur scientist, a tourist draw, an Appalachian historian, and even a social worker and family counselor.
