There’s a memorable scene in Sam Jones’s 2002 documentary, “I Am Trying to Break Your Heart: A Film About Wilco,” in which the band’s frontman, Jeff Tweedy, is trying in vain to explain what the next Wilco record will sound like. “It’s got a lot of drums and … holes in the songs,” he stammers. “A lot of big, open spaces between what’s supposed to be the music part.”
