It remains a mystery to me why otherwise intelligent people congratulated themselves on making the aesthetic breakthrough of creating buildings that weren’t pretty or beautiful. All that gloomy, shapeless, pockmarked brutalism. How clever! To make something neither attractive nor appealing!
