A casual observer of American culture and politics could be forgiven for wondering when the cancel mobs would catch up with Abraham Lincoln. For decades our schools and universities have busied themselves in the work of persuading the young that America’s noblest efforts to achieve racial parity were hopelessly compromised by racism. Lincoln did not begin his political career with a fully enlightened understanding of racial equality. That should make him, in the eyes of the race-fixated ideologues who run some of our elite institutions, a prime candidate for demotion.
