Jo Nesbo Gets Us Again in 'Blood On Snow'

Olav Johansen is very good at his job. As he should be, given the amount of thought and consideration he's put into his career choice. Olav is a fixer. A hired killer. And as we meet him at the start of Jo Nesbo's new novel, Blood on Snow, he has just pulled the trigger on another kill. As usual, he is calm and unapologetic and efficient. And then comes his next conversation with his boss, Daniel Hoffmann.

Daniel has a job for Olav that is more disturbing than the usual run-of-the-mill rival kill or revenge murder or business move. This time, the kill is personal. Olav is instructed to off Daniel's wife, Corina. It isn't the motivation that worries Olav. Nor is it the idea of killing a woman. He imagines that Daniel has his reasons. No. What worries Olav is that then, following the job, he will have something on his boss. Olav will know who is responsible for Corina's death. And in Olav's line of work, it is never, ever good for a man when he has something on his boss.
