You can't choose your ancestors, but writer Eve LaPlante has been blessed with some doozies.
She's the great-niece of Louisa May Alcott's mother, Abigail May Alcott. Lucky for us: LaPlante, a meticulous researcher and holder of new documents related to the Alcotts' history, has written Marmee & Louisa. It's a dual biography of one of America's most influential writers -- her name is as famous as Little Women, her most celebrated novel -- and her mother, whom we may not know much about but now will, thanks to this book.
