In the past week or so, I have, with only a few reservations, become a fan of the Weather Channel. Their talk about the jet stream is truly mesmerizing. I love how they address each other by the honorific “doctor.” Unlike most talking heads, they bring together legitimate expertise with something actually useful to say. O.K., it was a bit tacky how excited they were to “break records” as Sandy approached. And yes, it was worse than tacky to run a segment on how major storms are great for the economy as the storm was making landfall.
