The Beaker and the Ballot

America has a science problem. You might have heard: On issue after issue, from climate change to evolution to stem-cell research, politicians have distorted, and the public has denied, the consensus of the scientific community. This at least has been the narrative of the left since the Bush years, as retailed in such books as Chris Mooney's "The Republican War on Science" (2005). That original narrative is now reaching for lower depths, in more than one sense, with Mr. Mooney's "The Republican Brain: The Science of Why They Deny Science—and Reality."
