When George Plimpton interviewed Ernest Hemingway for The Paris Review in 1958, he asked the author how much he rewrites his work.

β€œIt depends,” Hemingway responded. β€œI rewrote the ending to [A] Farewell to Arms, the last page of it, 39 times before I was satisfied.”
