Since housing’s moderation began in 2007-2008 in concert with the banking system’s crackup, much ink has been spilled about over-investment in the housing sector. With good reason. Investments in housing, as this column has stressed numerous times, don’t make us more productive, don’t open up foreign markets, nor will they lead to technological innovations or cancer cures.
