To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Portland Community College President David Rule asked PCC Rock Creeks’ Community Relations Manager, Janis Nichols, to come up with a project that would contribute to the district-wide goal of 50,000 hours of community service. Rock Creek is one of PCC’s three campuses; the college also has seven centers plus dozens of independent locations. According to Oregon Live, Nichols’ brainchild was the Book Mark Project, which collects surplus books donated to local academic and public libraries and donates them to prison libraries.
